Correctional Facility Release Destinations

Weber County Correctional Facility is the county's secure booking and custody site. A direct county release can follow bond, own recognizance, a judge's order, or completion of a county sentence. Own recognizance means the court allows release without posting bail, subject to the court's terms. Those events may return a person to the community, but not every exit has that result.

The facility also holds state prisoners, U.S. Marshal prisoners, ICE detainees, and people accused of probation or parole violations. A name may leave the Weber roster because the person went to UDC, another county jail, the Utah State Hospital, federal custody, immigration custody, court, or another facility. The release record's destination field is therefore central. Transfer means continued custody under another agency.

A custody timeline should preserve each agency change. Calling every exit a release erases the distinction the records are meant to show.

Confirm Correctional Facility Releases

The sheriff's live roster is only the first check. It can show whether a matching current booking remains displayed, but Weber states that the roster is not official. It has no release-date field, released filter, destination, or historic release archive. Absence may reflect many kinds of movement. A positive release entry is stronger than an empty search.

1. Search the Weber current roster by exact name and open the matching booking detail.
2. Match the booking date, case number, and other identifiers. Keep separate bookings separate.
3. Read the court docket for the bond action, release order, sentence, dismissal, or warrant tied to that episode.
4. Ask Sheriff's Records for the actual release date and time, release type or authority, and transfer destination when applicable.
5. Follow UDC, federal, immigration, hospital, or receiving-jail records when the WCSO entry reports a handoff.

Utah VINE can supply a custody-change alert, but it is not a certified jail record. A court order may precede physical processing. Keep the order time, jail exit time, alert time, and later database-posting time under their own labels. Roster limit: A person disappearing from the Weber roster has not necessarily entered the community; always obtain the exit type and destination.

Correctional Facility Release Timing

Weber publishes unusually specific processing starts. Bond release is handled as soon as possible after bail processing. A judge-authorized release normally begins processing around 5 p.m. Completed-sentence release normally begins around 9 a.m. on the date time is served. None is a promised walk-out time. Staff may still need to resolve identity, multiple cases, holds, property, paperwork, transport, or another agency's authority. A court may order release while an unrelated detainer keeps the person in custody. A detainer is a request or legal basis for another agency to hold or receive a person. The actual admission/release entry establishes what WCCF recorded.

The county does not publish the precise exit door, a family waiting point, a weekend or holiday pickup process, or guaranteed transportation. Use the verified jail address in a current trip planner and arrange pickup only after processing is confirmed. Do not assume a ride is provided.

Correctional Facility Release Records

The Sheriff's Admission/Release Bureau creates booking, identification, classification, bail, and release-related records for the facility. A focused request should identify one person and one booking episode. Ask for the booking number, admission date and time, release date and time, release authority, release type, charges and case numbers, plus the receiving agency or destination if the event was a transfer.

WCSO's Records Section accepts electronic requests through NextRequest and directs people to file one request per desired record. The request needs the requester's name, address, daytime phone, a reasonably specific description, and uploaded government photo identification. Staff may approve, partly approve, deny, extend, or say the requested record is not maintained. GRAMA classification can also require redaction.

The records office is at Depot Drive, not at the jail. Call ahead before an in-person visit. No separate flat fee is posted for an ordinary inmate-release record, so ask for an estimate rather than assuming the fee used for another record type.

Correctional Facility Custody Scope

The Weber County Sheriff's Office Corrections Division operates this county jail. County sources describe 148,000 square feet, four custody pods, and 888 rated beds, split between 464 cell beds and 424 dorm beds. The sheriff reports more than 15,000 annual bookings, while its Admission/Release page uses a rounded figure above 14,000. A county-posted 2026 PREA audit reports an average daily population of 720.

These figures measure facility scale, not annual releases. Bookings can include repeat episodes and people held for other jurisdictions. The mixed population includes local agency bookings, state prisoners, U.S. Marshal prisoners, ICE detainees, AP&P violators, and other participants. That scope makes agency and destination checks more important here than at a jail serving only one type of case.

Federal Transfers From Weber Facility

WCCF's federal and immigration role is a distinctive local issue. The county says Admission/Release staff book ICE detainees and U.S. Marshal prisoners. Its Transportation Unit also moves people for federal court and immigration purposes. Therefore, “gone from the Weber roster” may mean a federal or immigration handoff, not a release into Weber County.

Start with the sheriff's destination or transport record. If the person entered a federal criminal case, read the federal docket and use the Bureau of Prisons locator after a BOP commitment. A BOP result saying “Not in BOP custody” can include a release date, but it does not rule out later local, state, immigration, or pretrial custody. The U.S. Marshals Service does not offer an equivalent public historical locator for its pretrial prisoners.

For an immigration handoff, use ICE's Online Detainee Locator System with the A-number and country of birth or exact biographical data. No result is not conclusive. It may reflect recent movement, spelling, coverage limits, transfer, removal, or release under immigration conditions. The county-posted 287(g) agreement adds local context, but the person-specific WCSO and ICE records establish the actual chain.

Destination check: Federal court transport, BOP custody, and ICE custody are separate paths even when the person was booked at the county jail.

State Releases From Weber Facility

A UDC client housed under contract at WCCF is not released through the ordinary county process merely because the roster location is Weber County. UDC says almost all state paroles and releases, including those involving people housed in county jails, are processed at the Utah State Correctional Facility. Rare county-jail exceptions are communicated to the family.

Use the UDC Offender Search while the person remains incarcerated or under UDC probation or parole. Compare the name and offender number, then record the exact custody and date labels shown. Next read the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole decision. A future parole date can change, and a Board order is not the same as physical exit.

Parole means conditional release from prison while AP&P supervision and the sentence continue. Discharge means the state obligation has ended. After complete discharge, the current-only UDC search may no longer return the person. UDC GRAMA and Board records then become the historical routes. The sheriff's WCCF record still proves the county-facility movement, but it does not replace the state release or discharge record.

WCCF Release Planning

WCSO Reentry Success Services adds a local planning layer before some scheduled releases. The county says residents within seven days of a scheduled release are placed on a list and offered a Thursday pre-release fair inside WCCF. Community reentry coordinators provide case management and release planning through Reentry Success Services and related local initiatives.

The program identifies needs such as identification, transportation, clothing, treatment, and community links. Donated aid may help address some needs, but the county does not promise a specific item or service to every person. Program participation also does not prove that a scheduled date became an actual exit. Confirm the physical release in the sheriff or UDC record that governs the person.

For property held as evidence or for safekeeping, the sheriff uses a separate appointment-based property channel at 801-778-6656. That office is not the routine inmate-property handoff at release. Evidence generally needs prosecutor approval, while the sheriff states that found and safekeeping property is retained for 90 days.
